Hungry for a reality TV cooking competition? Give this local one a taste!

Cape Town – If you like food and drama, then this one is for you!

kykNet's (DStv 144) reality TV cooking competition, Kokkedoor is back for a third season on Thursday, 18 July at 20:00.

First launched in 2013 the show has become a thriving local franchise with the spin-offs, Koekedoor, Kokkerdoortjie and Koekedoortjie.

The 13-episode original format show produced by Homebrew Films will see home cooks and professional chefs team together to take the title.

HERE ARE 4 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW SEASON

1. A BIG MOVE TO THE CITY

One significant change in the new season is that the show was filmed in the Mother City. Season 1 was filmed in Prince Albert and season 2 in the Klein Karoo. The new season was filmed at the Atlantic Studios in Cape Town and boasts a brand new set.

2. A UNIQUE FORMAT

What makes the show different from other competition shows out there is the unique format.

It comprises of a professional chef (kinkelkok) who has trained, has a wealth of experience and who works in a well-known restaurant and a home cook (onthoukok), someone who has not trained professionally, has a passion for traditional food inspired by their memories and recipes passed down from generation to generation.

In the third season there are 30 contestants - 20 home cooks and 10 professional chefs - 10 home cooks will be eliminated in the first episode.

After that they will be divided into 10 teams comprising of a chef and a home cook, they will then battle it out for the title and a fantastic package prize.

Each member of the winning team will walk away with a Suzuki Swift, and R200 000.

The runner-ups will each win R100 000.

3. A RACE AGAINST TIME

The pressure gets turned up in the kitchen where teams will learn to cook together. In each episode, the teams will have the challenge to prepare dishes for an event in a race against the clock.

4. MEET THE JUDGES

Hetta van Deventer-Teblanche and Nic van Wyk return as judges joining them is food writer and blogger Sam Wouldige.
