Cape Town - It’s a bittersweet win for Project Runway SA winner, Kentse Masilo.

The 26-year-old fashion designer was crowned the winner of the Mzansi Magic’s fashion reality show on Tuesday but she is receiving more backlash on Twitter than she is getting congratulatory messages.

“I am not really focusing on the negative right now,” Kentse said in a recent interview with DRUM.

During the competition, Kentse won four challenges. Whenever she came short she would take the negative criticism and turn them into a motivation, she explained.

“I take criticism very well and all the negative criticism I got from the judges, I would turn them into the best experience.”

Kentse added that she is excited about winning the competition and Paris Fashion Week – where she will have a pop-up store amongst other her prizes.

“I am overwhelmed and very honoured. I’ve worked hard to get where I am. But the whole thing was intense.”

Kentse blew the judges away with her 12-piece collection of futuristic design aesthetics and origami-inspired garments.

She also won mentorship and prizes worth over R400 000 from Edgars, Kelso Beauty products worth R30 000 and a R10 000 shopping voucher from Menlyn Shopping Centre. A Lexus CT 200h luxury compact hybrid, a trip to New York Fashion Week with TREsemmé and R20 000 from TREsemmé to showcase at SA Fashion Week.

However, if social media is anything to go by, a lot of social media users are not happy with the judges’ decision.

The judges comprised of Rahim Rawjee, Noni Gasa and guest judge Khanyi Dhlomo, who is the founder and CEO of Ndalo Media.

Some viewers felt Jaime Liu and Kireshen Chetty’s collections were more deserving to win than Kentse.

Kireshen and Jaime made stuff people can actually wear whilst Kentse made stuff that low budget Sci Fi movie producers would rent #ProjectRunwaySA

Some Twitter users even suggested that in the second season they must change the judging panel or allow the public to vote for the winner.

While some also believed Kentse was a deserving winner.
