Johannesburg - Jack Devnarain, beloved for his long-standing role as Rajesh Kumar on SABC 3’s Isidingo, has announced that he is leaving the show.

Jack, who is celebrating his birthday today, took to Facebook to make the announcement and expressed his fondness for the show on Thursday evening.

“For the last 15 of my 47 years it has been my greatest privilege to bring you the character of Rajesh Kumar. But it is time to move on.

“I have shot my last scene on Isidingo and I say goodbye to dear friends and colleagues.

“I leave with the love and blessings of the show that has been my home ever since I took on the role, and I have no regrets,” Jack wrote.

Before Jack discovered his passion for performing, he worked as a policeman, reports Huff Post.

The actor has been in the industry for 15 years with roles in City Ses'la and 37 Honey Street among others.

But he is widely known for his role as Rajesh, a successful businessman who runs several businesses in the small fictional mining town of Horizon Deep.

He even heads up the local television station ONTV and a mine.

Jack, who was raised in Durban, hinted at some exciting news his fans should look forward to, saying that he will be taking some time off to “celebrate the next stage of my career”.

“I started off on the small stages of community halls, bringing laughs, gasps, music and lunacy to people who love being entertained.

“I will return to the magic of live concerts and I hope you will join me!”

Jack thanked his fans who followed his role as the incorruptible Rajesh and asked for their continued support in his new adventure.

“Look out for my posts and we will meet again at events I will be co-promoting.

“Let's keep it interactive, so I will rely on your feedback. I'll put up my email address for all your comments, opinions and special requests.”

So long Rajesh – you will be missed!
