Josh Holloway on Colony S2: 'It goes deeper into the darkness'

Cape Town – Colony is back for season two and promises more family drama as the Bowmans fight to survive and be reunited.

Will (Josh Holloway) and Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) struggle to keep their family together as they encounter unexpected challenges, coming face-to-face with the new Resistance and searching for a way out of the Colony.

In a Q&A with Channel24 Josh tells us more about the new season and what he would pack in his end of the world survival kit.

How much has your character changed since season one?

Will Bowman is more determined than ever to get his son Charlie back. In fact, that is his only focus since he and Katie are at odds. Things have gotten harder in the Los Angeles block and the deception is getting deeper, therefore he's having to make the best decisions under the worst circumstances.

How did you physically prepare for the role as well as mentally?

Physically I work out regularly on my own and with a trainer. I do Jiu Jitsu, I box, crossfit, and I take a daily run. Mentally, I spend time with my family, I connect with nature, I play with my children. They are everything and are my priority. I also keep up on what's current in this big world, I find myself tuning into the news from time to time. One example is CNN, to which some of its current content is strangely similar to our show in a lot of ways.

What drew you to the role?

Being a father in this crazy world we live in drew me to this role. I want them to grow up in a safe environment, with clean air to breathe, safe water to drink, not having to worry about getting shot when they go to school, or a concert, or a movie. Unfortunately, that is not the world we live in. Maybe I'm looking for answers.

What can viewers expect from season two?

Season two gets deeper into the darkness of collaboration. The killing, the deception, the stress of all of that. How collaboration dirties the soul. How the wrong kind of resistance causes more death and destruction than good. But within the chaos, lies the silver lining. Hope, survival, and resilience. In season two Will is ending his collaborations with the Occupation and we will see the pursuit of new collaboration with the right kind of Resistance.

How much of the show is kept a mystery to you? How early do you get to know certain plot points?

As an executive producer I can know a lot more than I choose to. As an actor, it is important to me to not play the result, so I patiently wait for the journey.

What would you pack in your end of the world survival kit?

My family, a guitar, a water filter, flint and steel, a machete, and as many antibiotics as I can find.

Tune in to Colony season 2 Mondays at 20:00 on Universal TV (DStv 117).
