Cape Town - After more than six years as the country’s fave presenter on SABC1’s magazine show Selimathunzi, model and heartthrob Lunga Shabalala is calling it quits.

“It’s time for me to grow and explore other avenues in my career. I think I played my part and I’m leaving it to Khanya [Mkangisa] and [Siphesihle] Vazi to take over the show and they’re already doing a great job” Lunga says.

Lunga says change is good and we should expect more from him next year. “Leaving has been difficult but I came to a moment of realisation to know I need to continue evolving,” he says.

The 28-year-old KwaZulu-Natal-born presenter won the Selimathunzi presenter search in 2011 and has since won the hearts of viewers.

“I have some great memories I will take with me. One of my best moments on the show was when we took some of the viewers to Zimbabwe two years ago to exchange some of their skills with our Zim viewers,” Lunga says.

Lunga’s heart melts when he thinks about his fans.

“My biggest fans are my grandparents who have watched every episode of Selimathunzi and I will miss hearing the compliments.”

Although he can’t yet disclose his new business venture, Lunga says he can’t wait to share his new TV show.

“I will share the big reveal on 29 November and it will be a big surprise for everyone.”

Lunga’s last Selimathunzi show will air on Tuesday 28 November on SABC1 at 19:30.
