Cape Town – Michelle Williams won her first-ever Emmy award for her role as Gwen Verdon in Fosse/Verdon.
During her acceptance speech, the 39-year-old spoke out about the importance of equal pay for women.
In 2018 the Oscar-nominated actress was at the centre of a pay disparity issue when it was revealed that her co-star Mark Wahlberg was paid 1 500 times more than her for reshoot scenes for All the Money in the World.

Taking to the stage on Sunday the Golden Globe winner said: "I want to thank FX and Fox Studios for supporting me completely and for paying me equally because they understood. They understood that when you put value into a person, it empowers that person to get in touch with their own inherent value. And where do they put that value?
She continued: "And so the next time a woman, and especially a woman of colour — because she stands to make 52 cents on the dollar compared to her white male counterpart — tells you what she needs in order to do her job, listen to her. Believe her."
