Cape Town - After going on a TV hiatus following her much-loved Rhythm City character, Naomi, actress Moshidi Motshegwa made an exciting return to our screens – but it seems not for long.

Speaking on 702 last week, the actress who plays Malefu on The River, revealed that she would not be returning for the show’s second season due to producers not having a storyline for her character.

“They said they don't have a story for Malefu. It's as simple as that, that is what the producers have said. I am repeating what the producers said,” she told the station’s Azania Mosaka.

The veteran actress also said that she was glad to have made a return to TV and that she had no regrets about the work she had done.

“For me, the most important thing is that I came back, I did the work and I did it at the level I wanted. I have no regrets about the work I have done.”

Speaking to DRUM last year about playing Malefu, Moshidi explained how the character helped her deal with the loss of her father, who died just three months before she landed the role.

“My father was sick – he had one lung and he passed away in August 2017. Three months later I got this role. Had my father not passed away I don’t think I would have tackled it in the same manner. When death parks in your front yard and grief befriends you and sinks you into a story like this one, you give it everything you have,” she said about playing the grieving Malefu who had lost her husband in the telenovela.

“Because of my experience, the directors and producers allowed me to explore the character and give my input,” she continued.

Fans of the actress were devastated to learn of her exit on The River and took to Twitter to express their disappointment.

Co-star, Hlomla Dandala, who plays Zweli Dikana on the telenovela, also seemed devastated by the news.
