Cape Town - The Wendy Williams Show is getting a temporary host, after it was postponed, due to Wendy Williams taking a break for health-related reasons.
Actor and comedian Nick Cannon will now take over the show in February and will be continuing Williams' signature segment, “Hot Topics.”
Earlier this month, Williams’ family announced in a statement that she was still recovering from her fractured shoulder and also had to be hospitalised as a result of symptoms from Graves’ disease.
The family also revealed that the host is taking a break to focus on her personal and physical well-being.
“Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being,” the statement read.
According to Page Six, "Staff at [Williams’] show are eager to get back to work. We are all hoping she is well. The mood at the set is good … We just want Wendy to get better."
Previously distributor and producer of the Wendy Williams Show Debmar-Mercury announced that the show will resume but feature a variety of hosts serving in the host’s absence, reported Variety.
The 54-year-old talk show host fractured her shoulder in December which left her fans worried. She also later became sick and slurred her words during a live tapping of her show which she later apologised for and blamed the painkillers she was taking to treat her fracture, according to People.
Since then, Wendy has delayed her show’s return twice, before it was postponed indefinitely. It was originally supposed to return shortly after the New Year but was pushed back to 14 January this year. The show was again pushed to 21 January.
The show’s Instagram account posted that the host still needs to recover fully: “After fracturing her shoulder, Wendy is on the mend and wants to return pain-free and be 200%, delivering the best show that millions of viewers tune-in to watch.”
