Cape Town – The fairy tale has come to an end for Once Upon A Time. ABC’s fantasy drama will end with the current season.

Co-creator Adam Horowitz announced the news in a heartfelt message on Twitter.

He wrote: “Seven years ago we set out to create a show about hope, where even in the darkest of times, a happy ending would always be possible.

“But we never imagined the happy ending that was actually in store for all of us — years and years of adventure, romance, magic and hope. We’re so grateful to our brilliant collaborators — the cast, crew, and writers — as well as our partners at the studio and network for making this journey possible.”

He also thanked the fans for their loyalty and devotion.

Speaking about the finale co-creator Edward Kitsis told Entertainment Weekly that some familiar faces from the first six years will return.

“We will end it in a way that’s hopefully satisfying, but if someone years from now wants to do a spin-off or reboot, have at it, but my guess is it would be a full reboot.”

Season 7 currently airs Fridays at 16:45 on M-Net (DStv 101).
