  • In November Prince Andrew did an interview with the BBC in which he denied having sex with an alleged victim of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
  • He received backlash from the media and public relations experts who labelled the interview 'disastrous'.
  • The interview has now been nominated for a Bafta TV Award.

Prince Andrew's explosive interview with BBC Newsnight is among the 2020 Bafta TV Awards nominees.

His nephew, Prince William has held the position of Bafta president since 2010.

The interview with Emily Maitlis is nominated in the News coverage category. The winners will be announced on 31 July.

In the interview which aired in November, the prince denied ever meeting Virginia Roberts Guiffre, who claims that she was forced to have sex with him at Jeffrey Epstein's private island.

For years Andrew has avoided criticism of his association with the financier and sex offender who died in jail in August.

Following backlash from the interview, The Duke of York stepped down from royal duties.

In a statement, he said: "It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family's work and the valuable work going on in the many organisation and charities that I am proud to support."

Virginia is one of the women who appears in a new Netflix documentary, Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich.

In the four-part series director Lisa Bryant speaks to survivors - some for the first time - and examines how the convicted sex offender used his wealth and power to carry out his abuse.
