The SABC and Danie Odendaal Productions have called off the 20th-anniversary celebration event for its long-running SABC2 Afrikaans weekday soap 7de Laan that was set to take place on 25 March.
The soap and SABC2 have been running a viewers' competition for a luxury 2-day camping experience, but the "glamping" is now postponed to possibly later in the year due to the growing spread of the Covid-19 virus in South Africa and globally.
"Following the national address by President Cyril Ramaphosa, SABC2 has taken a decision to suspend the 7de Laan 20th anniversary glamping event which was scheduled to take place from 25 March 2020," SABC2 says.
"This is in order to limit physical contact and possible transmission of the coronavirus. The health of our stakeholders is of utmost importance to us."
Production and filming is continuing on 7de Laan, similar to all of the other local weekday soaps and local productions seen on SABC1 and SABC2, as well as on e.tv, and 1Magic (DStv 103), Mzansi Magic (DStv 161), kykNET (DStv 144) and M-Net (DStv 101) on DStv.
