Saftas 2018 nominees announced

Johannesburg - The 12th annual South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) nominees were announced at the Inanda Country Club in Johannesburg on Friday morning.

The event was hosted by local media personality, Masechaba Ndlovu.

This year 79 awards will be handed out in the various categories covering everything from TV non-fiction, TV fiction, feature films, short films, to student films.

Only South African films and television shows that have been produced and publicly exhibited or broadcast between 1 August 2016 to 31 October 2017 were eligible to enter.

Film or television content had to be submitted for consideration in order to be eligible for the Saftas.

According the National Film and Video Foundation of South Africa (NFVF) CEO and Saftas chairperson, Zama Mkosi, they "went to great lengths to get judges from different demographics and skills sets" to comb through the entries.

"We are proud of the record number of 262 judges used along 2 judging phases," Mkosi added.

There will be a special event held to celebrate the nominees on 9 March at Sun City. The official Saftas award ceremony will take place over three days at Sun City from 22 to 24 March.
