Siba dishes on her tasty new season of Siba’s Table

Cape Town – Our favourite South African celebrity chef, Siba Mtongana, is back with a brand new season of her hit cooking show, Siba’s Table.

Food Network announced that its brand new series of Siba’s Table will premiere on Thursday, 7 September.

Across ten episodes, the award-winning chef will give traditional food a modern makeover and her signature ‘Sibalicious’ spin and we’ve got the delicious scoop of what to expect.

WHAT TO EXPECT

So, what is going to make the new season different from the previous two? Well, Siba says she is taking things to the next level. While the previous seasons have been cost conscious and have covered all of the basics, Siba reveals she is taking chances and educating her audiences.

"I’m very focused on this season. In the past I have been very cost conscious and haven’t used too many experimental ingredients, but with this one I feel like we have done the basics and it’s time to take things up a notch.”

Siba also takes on her toughest critic – her 17-month-old daughter, Buhlebe – with some kid-friendly snacks for a family photo shoot.

“It’s lovely to show that family aspect because a lot of people can relate to that and also it becomes real in a sense that, for instance, while we were filming my older son just said, ‘That’s it I’m tired I want to go swim,’ and we capture all of that.”

CELEBRITY CHEF GUESTS

And of course Siba has some special guests joining in on her food adventures too.

The cookbook author will get behind the braai, cooking up some Greek-style lamb with special guest chef and MasterChef South Africa Judge, Pete Goffe-Wood.

Chicken gets a peri-peri makeover when Siba joins forces with the other queen of South African cuisine, Ina Paarman.

And for her third special guest Siba goes head-to-head with acclaimed chef and owner of Cape Town’s The Test Kitchen and The Pot Luck Club, Luke Dale Roberts.

EXPERIMENTING WITH TRENDS

Siba is all about new trends from all around the world and giving them a South African spin.

There’s a lot more to enjoy, including braai pork sliders and sides, international favourites like poke and Australian wagyu steak paired with a creamy chakalaka sauce.

“I just want to give people the opportunity to make trendy dishes from restaurants, at home.”

Another important aspect in the show will be working with healthier foods such as using less sugar, cooking with gluten-free ingredients but worry not, a sneaky indulgent recipe will always be around the corner.

“It can’t all be indulgence but we’re not a channel that screams healthy. For example, there are a lot of recipes that are lactose free but we are not encouraged to emphasise that it’s lactose free because it tends to put people off.”

Siba’s Table Season 3 premieres on Thursday, 7 September at 20:00 on Food Network (DStv 175).
