Cape Town - Selimathunzi presenter Siphesihle Vazi will make his acting debut on Muvhango this week as the MC at James’ (Dingaan Mokebe) wedding.

SABC1’s variety show seems to not only breed some of South Africa’s best presenters, but actors and actresses too – think Khanya Mkangisa and Tshenolo Seabi. So it’s no surprise that Siphesihle, like his fellow presenters, is thinking about an acting career.

But fans needn’t worry just yet; he’ll still be on Duku Duku.

Siphesihle says although acting has always been part of his plans, he wants to be equipped with all the skills needed before fully venturing into the craft.

“I’ve always had the plan to go into acting, but I wanted to study it first. And I’ve been very privileged because when I approached Duma kaNdlovu he agreed to have me at the Duma Ndlovu Actors’ Academy (DNA Academy). DNA Academy conducts its weekly classes at the Joburg Theatre.

“I haven’t been actively auditioning for roles just yet – I want to learn as much as I can first.”

And it seems he’s on the right track as, according to Sunday World, Duma isn’t likely to hire someone with no formal acting training. “I’m very unlikely to hire someone who doesn’t have an acting diploma or degree – unless it’s somebody who’s been in the industry for a very long time. I feel very strongly about this and I talk about it all the time. If you want to be an actor go to school and study drama, that's it,” he said.

On Muvhango Siphesihle MCs the wedding as himself and “because of that, I decided to style myself in a suite that the viewers will recognise – because I was me,” he shares with DRUM.
