Stars of The Bold and The Beautiful reveal what they loved about their trip to SA

Johannesburg - Growing up, 17:00 to 18:00 meant sitting quietly in front of the television, waiting in anticipation on the couch next to my grandmother until the ads were over and that legendary into song would begin.

Always filled with scandalous affairs, nail-biting drama and gut-wrenching shockers, a good few minutes were spent after every episode of The Bold and The Beautiful, dissecting the tale with my gran. And then we would eagerly await the next episode on the following day – when our routine would begin all over again.

Now, while it’s been a good few years since I’ve watched the soapie, it didn’t change my levels of excitement when finding out that some of the cast members would be in South Africa as part of the show’s 30 year birthday celebrations.

Jacob Young who plays Rick Forrester, Karla Mose (Maya Forrester), and Heather Tom (Katie Logan) were the lucky actors who got to do a short stint in South Africa.

From nights out on the town, petting animals at the Lion Park and enjoying some local cuisine, the soapie stars have certainly been making the most of their stay. They ended their adventure off in the Mother City before heading back home.

It’s not a first-time trip for Karla, who actually visited 14 years ago as a student. Heather too has been here once before, but for Jacob, a virgin visitor to our country, it was more than he’d expected.

“To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement,” he revealed to YOU.

We caught up with the three actors at a glittering Bold event in Joburg, where we asked them what their favourite parts of their SA experience had been.

For Heather, it was our fair country’s culinary delights.

“I didn’t really know what my expectations were going to be other than what I experience 14 years ago,” the actress shared.

“But that was long time ago. I wasn’t expecting such a huge change. The country is so different,” she added. “I already knew this but the food and wines have been insane.”

For Karla, it was the wildlife. No, not the nightlife in Sandton – the actual animal life.

“I always have a huge smile on my face when I think about seeing some of the local animals,” the US beauty revealed. “The last time I was here, I remember seeing monkeys on the side of the road. You definitely don’t see that in the US. It’s been fun to connect with animal life since we’ve been here. I’m looking forward to going on safari and seeing the local animals,” she added.

Jacob’s tastes were a little more intellectual. “One of my highlights was learning more about the history of Nelson Mandela and visiting Soweto,” he said. “I didn’t know that it wasn’t until 1994 that segregation ended.”

Of course, it wasn’t all play and no work. Some of the cast’s expeditions on their trip included wearing local couture by SA designers like Quiteria & George and Gert Johan-Coetzee. They also attended lavish events like the GQ Awards and SA Fashion Week, did a number of TV interviews and appearances, and even visited the set of local soapie Isidingo.

So the burning question – will they ever return to SA’s sunny shores?

Well, the votes are in and it’s unanimous: all of the stars have confirmed that they’ll definitely be back to visit again.

Jacob says his next SA jaunt will happen “sooner, rather than later”, while Heather “can’t wait to come back”.

And Karla? “You all are going to have to kick me out because I’ll be here so often!” she joked.
