Tarryn Lamb on Saftas nom: It has inspired me to pursue more roles

Cape Town – BlackByrd lead-singer Tarryn Lamb’s guest appearance on Suidooster garnered her a Safta nomination for Best Guest appearance.

Speaking to Channel24 about her nomination she says it has inspired her and given her the courage to pursue more acting roles.

“For a long time, my focus was purely on music. So I am really excited,” says Tarryn.

For Tarryn news of the nomination came as a big surprise.

“I was at home when I heard the news. I got a phone call from Simone who plays Bianca Fourie in Suidooster and she had me on video call and there were co-star and the make up teams screaming ‘Congratulations!”

She continues: “I was so confused and asked ‘why’, for what? To which they replied, ‘for your Safta nomination for playing Kim!’ I was so confused and was gobsmacked, shocked and speechless!”

PLAYING KIM

Although most people know Tarryn as a singer acting was her first love.

“I studied drama and musical theatre at the Waterfront theatre school and after graduating I had a role in Binnelanders and straight after that I released my first album and music took its course in my life.”

During the six weeks her character Kim was in the soapie she caused a bit of turmoil and drama in the close-knit Ruiterbosch community.

Speaking about her audition process Tarryn says she was extremely nervous because Afrikaans is not her first language.

“I really needed to get my words right so that I could be in the moment and play the scene. Gantane [Kusch] who plays Dr. Siya Thuli really helped so much in my audition to focus on the psychology and the emotional range of my character,” says Tarryn.

Asked if Kim might make a comeback on the show, Tarryn says she would love for Kim to return and stir up some more drama.

Working with the Suidooster cast was a memorable experience for Tarryn and what really stood out for her was the care and love that everyone on the team has for each other.

“They have such beautiful magic on set and off set and they really look after each other so beautifully. When you tune in to the show you can truly feel that family energy through the screen.”

We might have to wait some time before we see her back on the screen as Tarryn is currently finishing off her first solo album which she will be focusing on in the next few months.

“I would love to do more acting gigs, a feature film is at the top of my list. Who knows perhaps I could lift my juggling schedule up another notch.”

Catch the Saftas ceremony on Saturday, 24 March live from Sun City on SABC2 (DStv 192) at 20:00.
