Cape Town – The ground-breaking LGBTQI series The L Word is getting a sequel.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Showtime is currently developing another season of the hit show.
The show ran for six seasons on the network and ended in 2009.
A reality TV series spin-off The Real L Word aired on Logo in 2010.
Co-creator Ilene Chaiken will be the executive producer with a new series writer coming on board.
Stars of the show Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moenig, and Leisha Hailey will also produce and make appearances in the sequel alongside old and new cast members.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly for a reunion cover story in June Chaiken hinted that The L Word could return.
"It feels like there is a chance that The L Word could come back. We talk about it all the time."
She continues: "When we went off the air in 2009, I and I think a lot of people thought, 'okay, the baton is passed now and there will be lots of shows that take it up, that portray lesbian characters, lesbian life, there's really nothing.' It certainly feels, like, maybe The L Word should come back."
