Johannesburg - It is week five in the Bake Off tent and the bakers are back for Dessert Week.
This week there is an additional ingredient that will not leave a sweet taste in your mouth, as not one but two bakers will sadly be leaving the competition.
For their signature challenge, the bakers must create a fridge tart with a South African twist. From a granadilla crème brûlée to coconut lime with a pecan biscuit base, the contestants on the whole impress the judges with their tastes - apart from a few soggy bottoms and some fillings which refuse to set.
The technical bake of a self-saucing lemon pudding proves a bridge too far for most of the bakers as they battle to make sense of their reduced recipes, where baking methods range from strange to downright clueless.
Then the showstopper bake asks the bakers to produce two types of twelve eclairs that reflect some distinctly local flavours.
Unfortunately for some bakers, trying to perfect their choux pastry, threw chaos to their assembly time and resulted in disastrous results as the ten second countdown began.
