The top 10 shows South Africans first binge-watched on Netflix

Cape Town - The habit of bingeing is one that has evolved over time - becoming immensely popular amongst South Africans.

In fact it only takes South African Netflix members five days to have their first binge, while the rest of the world takes two weeks (well, 12 days to be exact).

A survey done by Netflix revealed that more than 90% of people with a Netflix account have binged shows. 

The average binge lasts three days and 35% of people re-watched their first binge. 

The shows that people tend to fall in love with first seem to include a variety of bad boys (and girls). Narcos is the show that people binged first in South Africa, with Breaking Bad, The 100 and Suits not far behind. 

South Africans are also falling for shows that leave us hanging, like Stranger Things and 13 Reasons Why. While shows that aren’t afraid to push boundaries, like Grace and Frankie, Shooter and Marco Polo round out the Top 10.

4. Breaking Bad
5. Shooter
6. Grace and Frankie
7. The 100
8. Gossip Girl
9. Suits
10. Marco Polo

And while Walter White reigns supreme over time globally, he hasn’t always been at the top - 13 Reasons Why stole hearts in 2017. The one show that’s always been in the watch list is Gossip Girl, which ranked as one of the top first binges in past years.
