There's a twist on SA Bake Off tonight!

Johannesburg - It’s Alternative Bake Week and the five remaining bakers on The Great South African Bake Off take on gluten free, sugar free and dairy free bakes.

This week’s signature bake of two dozen sugar-free muffins sees mixed results as the pressure mounts. For some, mistakes creep in, while others let their creativity shine with bacon and egg, fenugreek and corn, and even fig and almond ricotta muffins.

Gluten free is brought into this week’s technical challenge in the form of brioche. The heat begins to rise in the Bake Off tent as the contestants struggle their way through the unfamiliar rice, tapioca and corn flours to create their brioche.

The showstopper challenge brings bakers back to almost-normal with their ‘no dairy’ vegetable cakes. The array of cakes is vast and inspired – there’s a pumpkin and orange cake, a tomato and chocolate cake which delivers some surprises, and perhaps most intriguing - a candied zucchini, chocolate and walnut combination.

For a new twist on baking, Alternative Bake Week is a not-to-be missed episode of The Great South African Bake Off.
