Top seven festive picks on Amazon this December

Cape Town - December has arrived and it’s the season to stream!

What better way to get into the festive spirit than indulging in Amazon Prime Video’s top seven holiday-themed flicks and series episodes?

1. Elf

Is it even Christmas without watching Elf? Once upon a Christmas Eve, an orphan baby crawled into Santa's bag of gifts and was taken to the North Pole. Raised by Papa Elf (Bob Newhart), Buddy (Will Ferrell) comes to realise he doesn't fit in with the other elves. Determined to find a place where he belongs, Buddy searches for his real dad - in New York City!

And remember; the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

2. Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You

Based on the iconic Christmas song and popular illustrated book of the same name, Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You featuring Mariah’s music and narration will be a family favourite for years to come. It includes three classic Mariah songs as well as a brand new original, written by the artist herself.

When little Mariah (Breanna Yde) sees a darling little puppy named “Princess” at the pet store, she suddenly knows exactly what she wants for Christmas. Before her Christmas wish can come true, she must prove that she can dog-sit her uncle’s dog, Jack, a scraggly rascal. In fact, the worst dog in the county! Jack turns Mariah and her family’s perfect holiday preparations upside down in hilarious ways. It wasn’t exactly the Christmas she wished for… it was more than she ever wanted.

3. White Christmas

If you're after an old fashioned Christmas in front of a fire, this classic is for you.

Two army buddies, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye), team up after the war and become a successful song-and-dance act. While on a skiing holiday the pair stage a benefit to save an inn run by their old commander, who is beset by financial difficulties resulting from a lack of snow.

4. The Grand Tour – Happy Finnish Christmas

The Grand Tour gets festive as Hammond and Clarkson compare the Ford Mustang V8 and the Ford Focus RS. James May recounts the bitter 1960s battle for endurance racing supremacy between Ferrari and Ford, and the presenters run through some ideal Christmas gifts for car fans.

5. Scrooged

As synonymous with Christmas as a turkey or crackers, this is a retro classic for the whole family to enjoy.

The Bill Murray classic sees him playing Frank Cross who runs a US TV station which is planning a live adaptation of Dickens' Christmas Carol. Frank's childhood wasn't a particularly pleasant one, and so he doesn't really appreciate the Christmas spirit. With the help of the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, Frank realises he must change.

6. Jean Claude van Johnson

What’s Christmas without an iconic action star like Jean-Claude Van Damme?  In his series television debut, the action star reclaims the title “The Muscles from Brussels” in the new series, Jean-Claude Van Johnson - a wildly funny homage to the action classics of the 1980s and ’90s that centres on the star’s secret double life as a black-ops specialist on and off screen.

7. Mr Bean - Merry Christmas Mr Bean

Prefer a dose of festive TV? Mr. Bean is sure to get the family laughing.

Mr Bean purchases a bulky string of tree lights before making a shambles of a department store toy section. He later manages to acquire a free turkey and Christmas tree, and attempts to conduct a Salvation Army band.
