Two soapie superfans meet their TV idols

Johannesburg - There are The Bold and the Beautiful fans, and then there are superfans. East London married couple Kaydee and Reltin Rooy fall into the second category.

For the show’s 30th anniversary celebrations, The Bold and the Beautiful and SABC3 partnered to give two South African viewers the chance to mingle with their soapie idols. The Rooys were the lucky chosen pair. They’ve been tuning in religiously to the show for decades, something that started when they were little kids who used to watch it after school with their grandmothers.

The couple was absolutely gobsmacked to see their favourites in the flesh, and Reltin claimed on several occasions that “he met his first wife, Brooke!” Equally enamoured Kaydee blushed and squealed every time Pierson Fodé, who plays Thomas Forrester, walked past or made small talk with her.

“The whole experience was a dream come true for us. We were living the celebrity lifestyle every single day in Monaco. I can’t say or express how amazing this all was and it is most definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Kaydee.

The couple was treated like VIPs during their stay and accommodated at a private en suite room at the four-star Le Méridien Beach Plaza on the shores of Monte Carlo Bay. They had access to the five-day Monte Carlo Film Festival, as well as the afterparty, red carpet treatment, plus the chance to wine and dine with the cast of The Bold. Included in the winning couple’s package were return flight tickets from South Africa to France. “I’m so happy to be here and I’ll never forget this experience,” Kaydee kept saying.

After the trip they told us they’d kept every piece of memorabilia. Naturally, they plan on keeping tuned in to every episode. The Bold currently has its own fan-run Facebook page called The Bold and the Beautiful Worldwide – Voice of the Fans, with 129 636 likes.
