UnReal returns with the first black bachelor

Johannesburg - UnREAL, the hot A+E Studio drama that dishes up a fictitious behind-the-scenes glimpse into the chaotic world of reality TV, returns for a second season to Lifetime (DStv 131) later this year.

Set against the backdrop of a hit dating competition show Everlasting, UnREAL follows the daily working lives of the crew, proving just as much drama happens off-camera as it does on-camera.

It is the sole job of Rachel Goldberg (Shiri Appleby), the show’s young and talented producer, to play puppet master with the show’s contestants. She manipulates them to capture the vital dramatic and outrageous footage that viewers want – and demand.

Fighting against her own dark past and tired of the programme’s dispassionate executive producer Quinn (Constance Zimmer), Rachel is not sure how much more back-stabbing and games is she willing to take.

Also returning for series two are: Craig Bierko as Everlasting’s creator, Chet, who is on a quest to reclaim his full power on set; Josh Kelly as Jeremy, Everlasting’s director of photography and Rachel’s ex-boyfriend and Jeffery Bowyer-Chapman as Jay, a field producer whose ambitions run far beyond the show.

In the new series, the producers are casting for Everlasting’s new suitor Darius Hill, an all-American football star. We also meet the new contestants including Yael, a gorgeous upscale hipster; Tiffany, a daddy’s girl and football player’s dream; Ruby, a shrewd contestant, not at all interested in being a puppet for the producers; Bethann, an Alabama born and bred patriotic girl and Chantal, a prim and proper southern debutante.
