Video shows Jussie Smollett with 'noose' around neck after reporting alleged attack

Cape Town - Chicago police have released hundreds of files from the investigation into Jussie Smollett's claim he was attacked by two men - including video footage of the Empire actor wearing a thin white rope wrapped around his neck.

In January Jussie claimed that he was attacked by two men who shouted racial and homophobic slurs towards him. The men reportedly proceeded to assault Jussie before pouring an unknown chemical substance on him. During the attack, one of the offenders also allegedly wrapped a rope around his neck.

In March the 37-year-old was charged with 16 felony accounts after the police said he falsely reported that two men attacked him and that he "orchestrated the publicity stunt."

He pleaded not guilty, and at the end of March, all the criminal charges against him were dropped

In May the City of Chicago sued the actor for $130 106 for investigative charges.

The case is now being re-examined with a special prosecutor assigned to it.

Since the scandal the actor was let go from the hit Fox show.

On Saturday Jussie celebrated his birthday with a throwback baby photo of himself on Instagram. Alongside the picture he wrote: "Grateful for love. Grateful for y’all. Grateful for another year around the sun."
