WAGS Atlanta's Kaylin Jurrjens on what makes the show different

Cape Town – There are a new set of WAGS gracing the small screen and they’re bringing some southern charm and a whole lot of sass.

Joining the WAGS franchise on E! (DStv 124) is WAGS Atlanta.

The new series follows the relationships and glamorous lifestyles of Ariel Anderson, Niche Caldwell, Kierra Douglas, Kaylin Jurrjens, Kesha Norman, Brandi Rhodes, Shuntel “Telli” Swift, Sincerely Ward, and Hope Wiseman as they balance being partners of professional athletes and their own ambitions.

Kaylin wife of baseball player JJ Jurrjens told Channel24 during a telephone interview that she decided to join the show because she wanted to do something for herself.

“I thought that this would open doors to other opportunities as you can see on the show, I’m really into hosting and into beauty pageants but I got distracted by getting married and living the baseball wife life. I thought it would be a great opportunity.”

According to Kaylin the main differences between the other two shows: Miami and Los Angeles is the family dynamics.

“We focus a lot on the family dynamic which is huge, whereas in LA and Miami the ladies are so beautiful but they can get a little catty. Now we can get catty in the South too but I love that we are telling the story of family dynamics and how difficult it can be dating or being married to an athlete – it’s not just the fabulous lifestyle.”

For Kaylin it was important to be her true self. The best advice she received before embarking on the show was from her husband who told her ‘to just be herself.’

BARING IT ALL FOR TV

At the beginning of the season the Jurrjens go through a particularly tough time when JJ gets suspended for 80 games.

While she wasn’t reluctant to show off every aspect of her life she was a bit cautious about trusting the producers at first.

“We were very open with our entire storyline and everything that JJ has gone through but I was reluctant to trust them at first. I said to them, ‘If I really show everything are you going to show us in the right light?’”

But after seeing how true they kept to their story Kaylin is proud of the show so far.

It was important for her that viewers get a sense of who they really are.

“Behind every athlete there is a woman and a family and they are doing everything to help him keep his dream alive. I wanted people to see that it’s not just about living in big houses and driving nice cars. No matter what tax bracket you’re in people are people are people. We all go through challenges.”

For Kaylin this show has helped her grow as a person.

“I know it might sound trivial because this is a reality show, it has taught me that I am much stronger than I thought.”

She continues: “We went through a hard time at the beginning of the show. It was either fight or flight. I could quit the show or continue and be strong for my husband and our family. Watching it I am very pleased with how we handled the situation.”
