Cape Town - Downton Abbey announced last month that it’s about to film a movie adaptation, expected in cinemas in 2019.
Joanne Froggatt will reprise her Golden Globe winning role as Anna, the loving and resilient head housemaid who became lady’s maid to Mary Crawley.
But after watching Froggatt in Dark Angel, now on Showmax, you’ll be hoping Anna doesn’t offer anyone a cup of tea in the new movie…
In a Satellite Award-nominated performance, Froggatt plays the notorious Victorian poisoner Mary Ann Cotton. She used her good looks and sexual allure to get her hands on insurance policies of family members. Her weapon of choice was arsenic, which is tasteless and easily disguised in a cup of tea.
For authorities, the problem was that arsenic poisoning, if done skilfully, mimicked the symptoms of two of the major public health scourges of the day: typhoid fever and cholera.

Like other serial killers, her body count can never be certain; the current best estimate is at least thirteen, ranking her far above her Victorian male counterpart, Jack the Ripper.
