WATCH: Kit Harington back on screen in new drama

Cape Town – Just in time for the Game of Thrones drought BBC One is set to air three part drama Gunpowder starring Kit Harington.

The story follows the 1605 attempt by a group of English Catholics to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of England's Parliament on 5 November 1605 and kill King James I.

The plot was foiled by authorities when they received an anonymous letter about the plan. Fawkes was discovered guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder and arrested. Hence the British yearly celebration of Guy Fawkes Night with fireworks.

Harington will play Robert Catesby, a committed Catholic who is the mastermind behind the plan.

Other cast members include: Liv Tyler, Mark Gatiss, Peter Mullan, Tom Cullen, Edward Holcroft, Shaun Dooley and Robert Emms.

BBC One released a sneak peek of the show on social media.
