WATCH: 'Wonderful hair leads to wonderful opportunities' says Octavia Spencer as Madam C.J. Walker

"Hair is beauty, hair is power," says Octavia Spencer in the trailer for Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker.

The Academy-Award winner both stars in and produces the new Netflix limited series inspired by the life of Madam C.J. Walker, the trailblazing African American haircare entrepreneur who was America's first female self-made millionaire.

Against the odds, Walker overcame post-slavery racial and gender biases, personal betrayals, and business rivalries to build a ground-breaking brand that revolutionised black haircare as she fought for social change.

Cast members include Blair Underwood, Tiffany Haddish, Carmen Ejogo, Garrett Morris, Kevin Carroll, and Bill Bellamy.

The series premieres on the streaming service on Friday, 20 March.
