We chat to Idols SA top 3 eliminated contestant

Cape Town – Millions of fans hearts broke around the country when 21-year-old Rhema Varrie was announced the latest casualty on Idols SA season 11.

Despite raking in an astonishing record number of 11.2 million votes the former financial advisor was knocked out in the top 3 round.

We had a quick chat with Rhema about his Idols experience and his future plans.

Channel24:
It’s obviously bittersweet what was it like making it this far, did you thing you would make it this far?

Rhema:
From the beginning of the competition my objective was to win. Just making it this far is a great achievement.

Channel24:
What’s the best comment you got from one of the judges?

Rhema:
The best comment was from Gareth Cliff when he said that I have one of the best voices in the competition ever. It was a great confidence boost; it was really something nice to hear.

Channel24:
What’s been the most memorable moment on the Idol journey so far?

Rhema:
The trip to London was the highlight of my Idols journey. It was an amazing experience I really enjoyed it. It was the first time I flew and my first time out of the country.

Channel24:
What was your favourite performance?

Rhema:
I’d Rather Go Blind was my favourite performance.

Channel24:
Is there one song that you wish you got to perform?

Rhema:
I really wish I had the chance to perform one of last night’s song, Daddy. It was one of the first songs I sand as a child and it has so much sentimental value for me.

Channel24:
What are you future plans will you be returning to your day job?

Rhema:
(Laughs) The plan is not to go back to my day job. I want to continue singing and just capitalise on the popularity that the show has given me. Even though I didn’t get to sing my winners song, it has been downloaded it’s currently number 6 on iTunes.

Channel24:
You’ve built up such a big fan base, how does it feel to have all this support?

Rhema:
It’s so overwhelming and I am so grateful for all the support. But with all the support comes a great responsibility a lot of teens now see my as a role model. And I really want others to believe that if I can do it they can too. Don’t stop trying, keep pushing.
