We just got a first glimpse of Meryl Streep in the second season of Big Little Lies

Cape Town – Season 2 of Big Little Lies kicked off filming in March.

Channel24 reported earlier that Academy award winner Meryl Streep will be joining the cast.

She will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry White (Alexander Skarsgard) in the upcoming season.

Nicole Kidman, who plays Celeste - the wife of Perry, shared a first look image of Streep in character on set.

According to Deadline here’s a synopsis of Streep's plotline: "Concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry’s death, Mary Louise arrives in Monterey searching for answers."

The entire cast will reprise their roles: Reese Witherspoon as Madeline Martha Mackenzie, Adam Scott as Ed MacKenzie, Laura Dern as Renata Klein, Shailene Woodley as Jane, Zoë Kravitz as Bonnie Carlson.

Douglas Smith joins the cast as Corey Brockfield, an off-beat surfer, aspiring marine biologist and Jane's co-worker.

HBO describes the second season as "darkly comedic drama Big Little Lies will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode, and the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom."
