Cape Town - Wendy Williams has recently come under fire for making a statement on her show, The Wendy Williams Show, for apparently showing support for R Kelly.

The 51-year-old singer has been accused multiple times for molesting and sexually harassing underage girls, according to the BBC.

While many stand in support of the #MuteRKelly campaign, Wendy Williams has been doing the opposite by supporting him.

In a recent episode of the show, she told the audience that she met R Kelly while she was on her three weeks leave and that he told her everything but she could not disclose any information that she had discussed with him.

During the segment, the former radio presenter decided to support him by suggesting that some of the women who accused him of sexual harassment were either pimped out and sold by their parents or made themselves look older.

She further went on to ask the audience if they would be offended if she invited the singer on the show then urged management to make it happen.

An insider has told the Daily Mail that the show's syndication company, Debmar-Mercury was shocked and dismayed at the direction Wendy took during the segment.

According to the Daily Mail company executives allegedly begged Wendy to tone down her support for R Kelly after advertisers began threatening to pull out.

In late May, network executives called a meeting asking Wendy to pull back on air on supporting R Kelly because this would have a major negative effect on the show.

In an episode that aired in January 2018 Williams also spoke out against the #MeToo movement and included Kelly in her argument.

“I’m sick of this #MeToo movement,” she stated. “I love that people are speaking up for the first time and coming out and everything, but now … I look at all men like, ‘You’re a #MeToo.’ All of them, which is not fair.”

According to Atlanta Black Star, Wendy was told that if she loses advertisers over this, it would be a big problem
