Johannesburg - Through to the second week, the country’s finest amateur bakers return for Bread Week in The Great South African Bake Off.
The signature challenge demands quick free form bread to be made. From a beetroot and cheddar soda bread through to an of the moment health nut bread, imaginations run wild in delivering a staggering variety of creations.
The bakers are then required to create an authentic Italian ciabatta, and initially face their technical challenge with appropriate Mediterranean aplomb. They soon discover that there’s more to creating a perfect Italian slipper than a wet dough and a slab of enthusiasm.
The showstopper challenge is a decorative loaf centerpiece of varying types of bread, where offerings range from a braai savoury plaited bread to a wholewheat rabbit bread complete with carrots.
Meanwhile presenters Lentswe Bhengu and Anne Hirsch’s puns are becoming as legendary as they are delightfully cringeworthy.
Bread Week is a not-to-be-missed episode of dough, doubts and spectacular delivery.
