Why 'Big Little Lies' probably won't return for a third season

Cape Town – When Big Little Lies first aired in 2017 the show received rave reviews from critics, so fans were thrilled to hear the Monterey Five would return for a second season. HBO president, Casey Bloys told TVLine a third season is “not realistic” though.

"I love this group of people – I would do anything with them," he commented, "but the reality is, they are some of the busiest actresses working in Hollywood."

"Look, if they all came to me and said, ‘We worked out all of our schedules!’ – then sure,” he joked, "but I just don’t think it’s realistic."

Bloys said the cast returned for season 2 to end the series “in a way that feels satisfying” for everyone, while according to People, the show’s writer, David E. Kelley also commented earlier this year that everyone is happy with the way the series concludes.

"We like our closure at season 2, that will probably be it," he said.

The season 2 finale of Big Little Lies will air on M-Net (DStv 101) on Monday, 22 July at 21:00 and on Showmax.
