The WWE has been deemed as 'essential business' in Florida and will continue to film amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to The Guardian filming in the state was initially shut down after the governor Ron DeSantis put the state under a stay at home order for 1 to 3 April with only essential services allowed to operate. Orange County mayor Jerry Demings said after 'some conversation' the decision has changed.

CNN reports that an order signed on Thursday allows employees at professional sports and media production to continue filming if the location is closed to the general public. Officials told the publication that is was added as an essential service because it is critical to Florida's economy.

On Monday the WWE resumed live televised shows.

In a statement to ESPN, the organisation said: "We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times.

"We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff.

"As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination and perseverance."
