Cape Town - Indulge in these stand-up comedy specials and documentaries featuring South Africa’s most famous comedian this Heritage Day long weekend.

1. Trevor Noah Presents NationWild (Showmax)

Mzansi's great comedian is back with a brand-new comedy showcase featuring up-and-coming South African comedians and the stories behind their success, first and only on Showmax. Each of the 13 episodes showcases one rising star, interviewed by Trevor, before they take the mic. Comedians include Comics’ Choice Award winners Tsitsi Chiumya and Phil De Lange as well as Lindy Johnson, winner of the 2017 Savanna Show Us Your Apples open-mic showdown. 

2. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah (DStv Now)

This is the irreverent, topical, entertaining talk show that started Trevor’s meteoric rise to international acclaim, which he has now been hosting for almost exactly three years (his anniversary of first sitting behind the Daily Show desk is on 28 September). Look out for David Kibuuka and Loyiso Madinga, fellow comedians from SA, who have been pulled into the Daily Show, courtesy of Trevor, for regular appearances. 

3. Trevor Noah: Welcome to America (DStv Now)

South Africa’s comedic genius gives a stellar performance in Washington DC in 2016, as he offers a unique world-view on American life.

4. Trevor Noah: There’s a Gupta on My Stoep (DStv Now)

Trevor returned to South Africa in 2017 to give one of his biggest shows to date in Johannesburg's most iconic live performance venues. There is nothing off limits in his new routine.

5. Trevor Noah: It’s My Culture (DStv Now)

After his comedy classic Day Walker, the comedic super star takes on South Africa’s different cultures in this hilarious 2013 comedy set.

6. Trevor Noah: Crazy Normal (DStv Now)

Popular stand-up comedian Trevor Noah returns with another outstanding comedic performance that makes light of the country he loves, South Africa. This show is from 2011, years before he would take the States by storm.

7. Trevor Noah: African American (DStv Now)

Comedic genius Trevor Noah returns to the stage for another mind-blowing set as you share his experiences of America, his other travels and being back home.

8. Trevor Noah: That’s Racist (DStv Now)

South Africa’s comedic super star gives another electrifying performance, and this time he tackles the little intricacies and controversies of South African life. 

9. Trevor Noah: Afraid of the Dark (Netflix)

In this one-hour stand-up special filmed in 2017, Trevor tackles American immigration policy, racism, international relations and other issues of the day.

10. You Laugh But It’s True (Netflix)

This documentary, filmed in 2011, sees Trevor Noah preparing for his first ever one-man comedy show, pushing through an avalanche of doubts and fears. This is the best way to get an insight into the superstar when his fame was on the rise.
