2012-07-17 09:01
Most of ourIdols fans have reacted with excitement at the contestants who have been chosen for the Top 18 and have even named their favourites.

The Top 18 - made up of nine guys and nine girls - were announced during the last episode of Idols which aired on Sunday.

But there are already clear favourites among the fans.

"Great choice these guys you choose are talented. If I could predict I see Khaya and Sihle head on at the end.Its going to be a tough.I wish them all the best as they are best," wrote Andrea Anderson.

Patience Khumalo agreed that this year's line-up is strong.

"I think this years Idols will be hot, and hoping we as South Africans will vote for the right person who will persuade music as a career not for the sake of money and popularity," she said.

She added that her favourites are Khaya Mthethwa and Maryke.

Una Jafta agreed with Patience and said Khaya Mthethwa was odds on favourite to take the competition.

"I personally think that Khaya should win this competition he is untapped talent and will also be a good role model to the youth out there," she wrote.

Mbali Khumalo also had the Durbanite pegged for the crown this year.

"Yes my favourite made it Khaya Mthethwa from Durban... and Simphiwe FROM North Nolloth...
and the next South African Idol is Khaya (CANT WAIT TO HEAR PROVEB SAYING THESE WORDS)," wrote Mbali.

Very unfair

However, other readers were not so excited about the list.

"Most of the people I like made it but I found it very unfair that Christina didn’t make she has both the fame and look of an idol plus I thought she looks like Fantasia, she really deserved to be part of the top 18," wrote Tshegofatso Maloka.

"What top 18. Its all rigged and the winner has been picked already. I Won't be watching the show," said Lidia Rubeiro.

Ria Uys addressed the lack of white competitors in this year's competition.

"Strange that there is only 4 white finalists? Is it a way to make sure that a white person will not win this year?Good I know, now I know not to watch this programme!" she said.

The Top 9 guys will perform for viewer votes on Saturday 21 July at 17:30. The Top 9 girls take to the stage on Sunday 22 July to round out the Idols big weekend.

Idols airs on M-Net and Mzansi Magic on Sundays at 17:30.
