Survivor SA: Maldives Recap - Episode 2

2011-03-03 22:31
Birds of a feather flock together.

All the castaways have met each other, and now they have to learn to work together. The tribes have been spoken.

Meet the competing tribes, Goma and Raituhn.

Goma members
                                Raituhn members
Allison                                                 Harry
Vanessa                                              Tasleem
Philicity                                                Letshego
Sean                                                   Carmel
Roxy                                                    Bonnie
Jacques                                                Hykie
MXO                                                    Tejan
Simon                                                  Malusi
Sindi                                                    Tshepo

Goma are in blue and Raituhn are in yellow.

So the bromance of Hykie and Jacques has been broken. It will be very interesting to see if they continue their alliance after the merge, assuming they both make it to the merge.

Aside for this minor glitch in the celebs' plan to take over the island, they're still dead set on saving their own kind and exterminating the plebs. Perhaps that's because they overheard Tasleem saying, "They're celebs? I don't know any of them!"

But right now, two plebs are sitting with the trump cards.

Meet the black cowries.

The curse

The game took an interesting turn when each tribe was asked to nominate the player in their team with the least survival skills. Tasleem was voted the weakest in Raituhn and Allison became Goma's black sheep. Tasleem and Allison were then presented with these bracelets with black cowries (shells) which automatically entitles them to a vote against them at tribal council. Lucky them They are also given the option to defect to the other tribe, but they may only do so once. Neither Tasleem or Allison chose to defect at this point.

However, if you steal their fire they're gonna get you! If the holder of the black cowries is voted out of the tribe, he or she can bestow it upon their worst enemy who will then have one vote against them should they return to tribal coucil.

Oooh, snap!

And that's why Allison is still in the game.

After losing the tank challenge because EVERYBODY wants to be a leader, Goma ended up at tribal council. Celebs Vanessa, Roxy, Philicity and Jacques tried to hold onto their collective superiority, but they couldn't vote out Allison for the fear of the curse and Sindi was way stronger physically than Philicity. That's exactly what Goma needed if they ever intended on winning a challenge and avoiding that terribly decorated studio that they call "tribal council".

So Philicity was voted off. Jacques and Roxy's egos took a bit of a knock with two votes each at tribal council. But had Allison not been voted the weakest earlier in the game, she would have been just that when it came to voting.

The probable reason for Jacques's votes was his bitching about being hungry. Thanks for that, Captain Obvious. At least the plebs got to find out that they have a pot lying in the middle of the ocean. They're about as equipped to survive a desert island as Charlie Sheen is to survive without booze.

It got so bad that the reward this week was a lesson in island cuisine from a local. While some are feasting on vermin, they had all been surrounded by rocket, crab and delicious coconut milk. But braaied rat is way better, huh?  No, I'm not going to get over it.
