WHAT IT'S ABOUT:

A modern love story based on the novel from the New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover. Auburn Reed has already lost everything important to her. In her fight to rebuild her shattered life, she has her goals in sight and there is no room for mistakes.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:

If you’re a lover of chick lit or want something light to watch in-between seasons of something or just as a weekend watch, then this is for you. This series is based on the book of the same name and is a typical chick lit romance with lots of cheese and drama to keep you happy, but don’t let my calling it cheese put you off. This series is cute and entertaining and will keep you happily entertained for seven 25 minute episodes while you lay in bed on a rainy day or recover from the flu.

It gets more intense as the show carries on and slightly more dramatic, but if that’s your jam then you’ll really enjoy this one.

Katie Leclerc (who you might recognise from Big Bang Theory or Switched at Birth) plays Auburn, a woman torn between her love for her son and the new found love she has for artist Owen Gentry played by Ryan Cooper. It feels like your typical damsel in distress story – poor woman works in an old age home, falls in love with an artist and has some big problem that he can help her solve. But eventually that trope gets turned on its head as Auburn learns to rescue herself.

This show is not going to be winning any Emmys or inspire a generation of artists and poets. But it’s a fun staycation watch or for when you really just want to take a break from binge-watching the last season of Game of Thrones before the last season airs.

There are faces you will recognise from being in other productions as what I call That Guy/Woman actors like Sherilyn Fenn who plays grandmother Lydia and Kyle Secor as Callahan Gentry. So it all makes for a cosy production you can enjoy with some popcorn and coke while lying in bed.

Think Julia Roberts/ Ashley Judd type movies from the ‘90s with a modern setting and twist. You’ll very much feel vindicated at the end of the series, but it doesn’t really take you on an emotional rollercoaster so to say.
