WHAT IT'S ABOUT:
Interviews with former girlfriends, ex-wives and police detectives detail the chilling decades-long criminal career of serial predator John Meehan.
WHAT WE THOUGHT:
If you were a fan of the original podcast or the article series, then you’ll be very interested in this documentary. While the podcast and articles already give you quite the insight into John Meehan’s life, this documentary will just add another layer to the already enthralling story of the man who used various women for their wealth and status while also being addicted to drugs and hiding his criminal past - including actually spending time in prison for them.
The documentary features interviews with John’s first wife Tonia, other women he conned, and his last wife Debra Newell - as well as interviews with her daughters Jacquelyn and Terra.
While the documentary is just another titbit for you to chew on in the giant meal that is this story, don’t expect it to be somehow revolutionary if you already know the case. People who are new to the Dirty John case will get a real kick out of it, but those of us who know what happens might be slightly underwhelmed.
Still not time wasted though as it’s still entertaining and you get to hear first-hand from his victims what really happened when he entered their lives and how he tried to burn in it all to the ground (in one case literally) before he got what was ultimately coming to him.
