WHAT IT'S ABOUT:

On this cooking show, Nadiya Hussain serves up delicious shortcuts, vital ingredients and fast favourites - perfect for today's time-strapped families.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:

Our favourite British Bake Off winner is back with a brand new show on Netflix and proves once again why Nadiya Hussain is a whole nation's darling. Despite being a whizz in the kitchen and having a deep love for cooking, Nadiya is still a human being who doesn't have time for spending hours in the kitchen. She'd rather be spending it with her family.

The show's premise is that Nadiya shows us how to make quick, easy and delicious meals not only on a budget but with very little time. She shares cheats and hacks reassuring the audience the entire time that it's okay to do so. She focuses on making time spent in the kitchen more efficient while still producing delicious and healthy meals.

Each episode also has a segment where she visits a factory or farm to see how the production of the British nation's most commonly eaten foods are made. From a mushroom farm to a Marmite factory, Nadiya explores it all with a bubbly enthusiasm and hunger to learn. The salmon farming segment is particularly important, and the show doesn't shy away from how the high demand for the fish has resulted in the farming that occurs. The show educates its audience on where their food comes from and how their food choices affect the world we live in.

The best part of this show is that you come away from it with the feeling that you can make all the things you've just watched in the episode. I've added a few of her recipes into my rotation, especially in Ramadaan when time is short but you still want to have something yummy on the table for iftar.

Nadiya's Time to Eat could not come at a better time for a world under lockdown. She uses pantry staples and nothing too out of the ordinary for the average person to get their hands on although I'd argue not everyone has the means to have salmon on hand in the freezer as a pantry staple. But be that as it may, she shows that she is a home cook with a talent for cooking rather than a master chef. And when one of her kids pipes up that they should invite Gordon Ramsay over to enjoy a meal, she laughs that she doesn't think he'd eat potatoes out of a can.

She's very aware that people might pull up their noses at some of her shortcuts but like she says, just hear her out. The lovely thing about Nadiya is that well, she's just lovely. There's a reason she was everyone's favourite in the Great British Bake Off, her personality just shines on screen, and she speaks to her audience as if they are close friends and family. You get the sense that she is welcoming you into her home and showing everyone from working singles to busy families that you don't have to resort to take-out or convenience meals when you can whip up something quick and delicious from what you likely have at home.

This is definitely a show to watch and get some new, tasty ideas from.
