At first, Rikki Brest seemed to have the upper hand in the race for Marc Buckner’s heart.

But it all came crashing down in the most recent episode when she was sent home without going on a single date with the Capetonian.

Throughout the season, The Bachelor SA fans watched Rikki plead with Marc not to waste her time – and the latest episode was no different.

On the day of the cocktail party, the beauty recalls sitting and contemplating whether she would choose to reject the bachelor’s rose if offered it.

Speaking to YOU, Rikki says in the next phase of the competition she would have had to introduce her family to the bachelor – something she wasn’t ready for.

“I didn’t know this man, I wasn't getting to know him . . . and I wasn’t prepared to take him home to my family,” Rikki tells us.

“At a certain point, you also think to yourself this is also my journey and I don’t know him.

“I started realising that I can’t just sit around and wait just because he’s saying, ‘You’ll get time’.

“I also want to get to know this man and see if I like him, it’s not a one-sided decision. I started feeling disrespected. He kept seeing the same girls over and over without giving me an opportunity to get to know him. He kept telling me one thing and he kept doing another thing.”

Asked why he’d been on more than one date with some of the contestants, the Cape Town hunk revealed he was doing it to get more clarity on the women.

However, after making up his mind, Marc decided not to give Rikki a rose.

“He kept me there, week on week on week and then he just sent me home,” she said.

Last night after the episode aired, the media personality took to Instagram to write a lengthy message to her fans.

“When I left that night, I was very happy to,” she captioned her post on Instagram.

“Watching the show back, I thank my lucky stars I didn't end up with someone that runs at the first sight of a strong woman who isn't scared to speak her mind.

“Generally, I have always believed a mature relationship should be able to handle real conversations where you’re able to challenge each other in order to grow. Good looks and a six-pack means nothing if your heart isn’t pure.

“If your soul can't connect with mine on a deeper level, you’re not my person. As much as I would love to find my person, I will never settle.”

Marc described Rikki’s Instagram post as “negative comments” he wouldn’t respond to, saying “I am however in support of support but not defamation of character.”

Rikki is unphased by Marc’s response as she believes her Instagram post was taken out of context.

“I think I’m fully entitled to say that, I don’t regret saying that, I don’t think it’s horrible. That is my opinion and my experience with him,” she tells us.

“Yes, I did have a paragraph or a sentence about Marc . . . and I said when I left the house I was happy. I think he was hurt by the backlash against him for letting me go and he read that comment with a filter on. He took the rest of the comments to heart but they were 100% not about him,” she added.

Having put together the message with her mom, Rikki maintains it was written without any malice as she doesn’t know the Bachelor well enough to comment on the purity of his heart.

Although it might have been a dramatic end to this chapter of the media personality's life, Rikki Brest knows it’s not the end of the road on her journey for love and that “if it’s meant to happen, it will.”
