Johannesburg – We don’t know what the bones read, but we know one thing for sure: 2016 is going to be a great year for SA music.
From MC’s to dance queens, here are the acts we think are going to explode in 2015.
Emtee
The Roll Up rapper gave us a glimpse of his genius near the end of 2015. With AKA and half of Nigeria’s hip-hop scene counting themselves as fans of his work, it’s clear that the young Emtee has a bright future ahead of him.
Sakhekile
It’s taken a while for rapper Sakhekile to find his musical sweet spot, but now that he’s got going it looks as if nothing can stand in his way of being the next big thing in SA hip hop. 2015 already brought the young MC features on tracks with iFani and Reason. And with his Bad in December collab heating up the dance floor this festive season, we can’t wait to see him take off in 2016.
Melo
Signed to Theo of Mafikizolo's record label, Melo spent much of 2015 introducing herself to the nation. 2016 promises to be the year that she finally breaks away from the entrance hall and onto the main stage of the SA music industry. Possessing a strong stage presence and an undeniable talent you wouldn’t bet against Melo making 2016 her year.
Azola
Azola gave us a glimpse of her talent when she was featured on Black Coffee’s platinum album, Pieces of Me. The songbird melted hearts with her smooth vocals on the track, and is fast making her name in the industry. No doubt more features will follow for the talented youngster. We’re expecting big things from her in 2016.
Karabo Mogane
2016 will be a make or break year for the 2015 Idols winner. Karabo will want to avoid the pitfalls that have caused so many Idols winners to fade into obscurity, and instead find his own voice and place in the SA music industry. If he does that, he’ll go a long way to dusting off the heavy tag of “just another Idols winner”.
