Oscar Pistorius' sister, Aimee took to Twitter this morning to set the record straight over reports that the convicted athlete received special treatment for his 28th birthday on Saturday.
The Sunday Times reported that Aimee and her other brother Carl, were allowed to take a string of balloons, cake and a gift bag into the Kgosi Mampuru prison with them. The newspaper also claimed that they spent almost two hours with Oscar, were allowed to park inside the prison grounds and weren't searched.
"I am dumbfounded at the false and irresponsible reporting in some newspapers," she said on Twitter. "Facts: Carl and I had a 45 minute non-contact visit with Oscar on Saturday as all our visits have been non-contact thus far, per regulations."
Aimee also went on to clarify the items that were taken into the prison for Oscar. "My brother received nothing that was not allowed by prison regulations for group B prisoners. No cake or perishables present at all. In fact, he only received toiletries and letters on his birthday and we took some balloons to show him through the glass divider," she added.
She explained that they are respectful of the rules. "The correctional officers have been courteous but stern – as their position requires," she added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Correctional Services has launched an investigation into the claims made by the newspaper.
