Johannesburg - Young girls (and boys) listen up! Here's more proof that you should never listen to the haters!

Actress Asanda Maku will soon be taking her place on our TV boxes as one of the main characters on e.tv's new sitcom B&B. But Asanda reveals that if it was up to her teachers, she would not be allowed anywhere near a acting job.

"My teacher at high school once discouraged me from pursuing acting. She preferred I become a presenter," she reveals in a chat with Sunday World.

Asanda, who also happens to be Khuli Chana's baby mama, decided to take ignore her teacher's advice and was so intent on proving the teacher wrong that she set out to be an actress without any formal training.

The actress, who broke out on SABC 2's Hectic Nine 9 and SABC 1's drama Interrogation Room in 2007, took a break from the screen in 2012. But she says she's is back and ready to take us all by surprise, especially that pesky teacher!
