Johannesburg - Every afternoon, come 4pm, Bonnie Mbuli is on our TV screens. She's gone from working hard in the shadows, to having her fame broadcast on national TV daily. And it's a move that has seen many, including us, fall in love with her all over again.
Although Bonnie's face is recognisable in South Africa, after numerous roles on various soapies, it's safe to say that she wasn't as 'famous' as her Afternoon Express co-anchors, Bonang Matheba and even Jeannie D. So, when her name was mentioned as one of the ladies pitched to host the show, it's no surprise that there was some raised eyebrows.
But perhaps the biggest surprise, for some, has been how Bonnie has come out of her shell. "She comes alive behind the camera. And live TV.... boy, it's her thing," says a source close to the production company.
To be honest, it's something we've noticed too. Or maybe it's just because we've never seen this side of the perceived 'quite and shy' actress.
Matching the skills of her co-stars, Bonnie has seen her fame jump in leaps and bounds, and those close to her say the new adventure is doing her the world of good. "She's happy. Just happy. Live TV is something she is still getting used too, but she loves it."
