Chaos erupts at Skeem Saam auditions

More than 10 000 aspiring actors flocked to Newtown, Johannesburg, for Skeem Saam auditions on Friday.

But the wannabe actors were all disappointed when they found out that auditions were cancelled. As if that wasn't enough, Sunday Sun reported that chaos erupted and Metro police had to intervene.  The wannabes reportedly started pushing and shoving, demanding to get to the auditioning room by force. Producers were reportedly so scared that they called the police.

Ayanda Xulu from Alexandra, who wanted his big break in the industry, told Sunday Sun: "I got here at 3am and I'm not leaving before they give me a chance to audition. They said auditions will be closed at 5pm but it's only 11am." Lesley Thagara from Tembisa said he was disappointed by the way the situation was handled. "It’s no longer Skeem Saam but 'Skeem sa Metro Police'!"

Skeem Saam publicist, Percy Vilakazi, told Sunday Sun that auditions were cancelled due to safety reasons. "We apologise for what happened. The new dates for auditions are 17 to 22 November but we'll announce venues on TV."
