Generations' actors given ultimatum

SABC bigwigs have ordered striking cast members to return to work or face the consequences.

The ultimatum was handed down to actors by the SABC's legal department. The SABC also rejected their demands for higher salaries.

Management have labelled the demands "astronomical" and "out of touch with reality."

An internal source told Sunday World that the SABC had made the decision on Friday night. Long-serving actors have demanded a wage hike from R16 000 to R30 000 a week.

"That means these actors will earn a monthly salary of R120 000, which is equal to R1.4million a year per cast member. This is not Hollywood. Is that affordable and sustainable given the financial status of the SABC? We were shocked by these demands," the source told Sunday World.

Actors are adamant that they want the rates changed and in accordance with industry rates. "We want these rates to be changed and for them to be in accordance with industry rates," said one cast member.
