Get out the tissues: here are some celebs' biggest lessons of 2014

What would a year being without lessons? You know, those things you learn, sometimes in a very hard way. We spoke to a few stars about what they have learned this year and boy, did they share.

TV presenter Roxy Burger said that her father's operation made her realise that she needs to spend more time with her loved ones. "It really opened my eyes. I love my job and enjoy doing it but it doesn't replace time with loved ones. You must cherish the time that you have," she said.

Actress and TV presenter Nonhle Thema's lesson was to trust nobody. She said: "People are after what you have. You must protect yourself and watch your friends. You must also pray." She said she has also learned that one must work very hard.

This year Khanya Mkangisa was reminded to stay focused and not be broken down by setbacks. "I've learned to go harder for my dreams," she said. She explained that she was sad when her character on Zabalaza was killed but realised that what seemed as a setback at the time, was only preparing her for bigger things. It wasn't long before she bounced back and landed a role on Isidingo.
