Goldfish tell us they'll bring home an EMA

Local Electro dance duo, Goldfish are the only South Africans nominated for an award at this year's MTV European Music Awards.

We caught up with the guys to chat about their nomination and found them in a crazy and confident spirit.

First of all congrats on the nomination for an MTV EMA! Tell us what went through your mind when you first heard about your nomination.

We had been traveling so much at the time that I wasn't sure what it was, but as soon as we got back to Cape Town we saw all hell had broken loose about the nomination, which is always fun!

You are South Africa’s only representative on the African act nomination list. Tell us on a scale of “biltong stuck in your teeth” (very likely to happen) to  “seeing a lion in your street” (not likely to happen) where do you rate your chances of winning?

Just being nominated is a great honour, but as you know biltong does get stuck in your teeth fairly regularly, so let's hope there's a good chance!

Give us a clue: who will you thank when you win? Also, will you give your acceptance speech in Afrikaans?

Dom and I speak Afrikaans as our second language, so we are not the best speakers of the language. Interestingly our Afrikaans has improved notably since traveling the world so much ( and needing a secret language to communicate in...and in the Netherlands it is very useful!).

As far as thank you's go, we owe everything to having both had amazingly supportive parents growing up and now having unbelievable support from our wives and family and friends putting up with seeing us in between tours and on FaceTime !

You’ve travelled the world, tell us where was the craziest place or gig you ever played?

It would have to be on the top of Verbier at La Vache in minus 10 degrees surrounded by snow covered mountains and crazy snowboarders and skiers jamming in the snow!

What do you love the most about being home in South Africa?

Spending time with friends and family and getting out into the amazing outdoors that Cape Town has to offer - especially surfing and mountain biking .

If you could play at any celebrities birthday party, who would it be and what would you play? 

If we could have done this while the great man Madiba was still around, we would have played him our song "The real deal"!
