Graca Machel remembers Madiba's legacy

Tata Madiba's widow Graca Machel has called on the world to keep the struggle hero's legacy alive.

Ma Graca spoke publicly for the first time since Madiba's death exactly one year ago at a wreath laying ceremony at the Union Buildings this morning.

Among the hundreds of people who congregated at the government ceremony were struggle veterans George Bizos and Ahmed Kathrada.

Ma Graca delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of the Mandela family. She thanked Madiba's friends and colleagues for their unwavering support throughout his life.

She added that she knew that Madiba was smiling and happy wherever he is now. "His legacy is in the goodness and the dedication to serve others which exists in every person," she said.

Ma Graca added that she felt happy at the thought of Madiba being reunited with other struggle heroes like Walter Sisulu.

What will you be doing to honour Madiba today?
